Uveitic Glaucoma
Uveitic glaucoma, sometimes called inflammatory glaucoma, develops as a complication of uveitis (inflammation inside the eye), either from the inflammation itself affecting drainage, or from steroid medications used to treat it.
What it is
Uveitic glaucoma, sometimes called inflammatory glaucoma, develops as a complication of uveitis (inflammation inside the eye), either from the inflammation itself affecting drainage, or from steroid medications used to treat it.
Symptoms and warning signs
May include eye pain, redness, light sensitivity, and blurred vision, often overlapping with uveitis symptoms.
Causes / risk factors
Any cause of uveitis — autoimmune conditions, infections, or unknown causes; steroid treatment for uveitis is itself an additional risk factor.
How it's diagnosed
Standard glaucoma testing alongside assessment of inflammation levels, managed together with the underlying uveitis.
Treatment approach
Balancing treatment of the inflammation with pressure-lowering treatment — sometimes delicate, since some anti-inflammatory treatments can raise pressure further.
